Food Model Activities

Concentration

Concentration

Grade Level: Early Childhood
Rating: 5 Stars

Activity Synopsis
After children name the foods in a set of Food Models, they cover their eyes while one is removed then guess which one is missing.

Activity Outcomes
Children will be able to:

  • Name the foods in a given set of Food Models
  • Identify which food has been removed from a set of Food Models

Materials and Advance Prep

  • Food Models
  • Flannel, felt, magnetic or bulletin board

What to Do

  1. Display three or four Food Models on the board.
  2. Have the children name each food.
  3. Have students cover their eyes. Then remove one Food Model.
  4. Ask the group what food is missing. When the correct answer is given, return the Food Model to the board.
  5. Repeat with the same or new Food Models.

Going Further

Take turns having different children choose four Food Models, place them on the board and remove one as you and the other children guess which is missing.

Place 12 to 15 Food Models face down on a table. Have each child work with a partner to try to identify all the Food Models. Each child takes a turn picking a Food Model. If they can name it, they get to keep that card for their team. If they don't know the name, they put it back face down. Continue to play until all the Food Models have been identified.
