Mix It with Milk Party
Help students create nutritious alternatives to soft and juice drinks with a Mix It with Milk party. It's a fun way to enhance or end a nutrition unit and help students get the calcium they need. It's also great way to involve school foodservice in classroom learning.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Download the Mix It with Milk master. Make a copy for each student.
2. Decide what mix-ins to have available for the party. You can decide or have the students help you.
3. Make a list of what you need and contact school foodservice to see if they can help get the milk, mix-ins and the supplies and equipment necessary. Better yet, invite them to join the classroom fun and talk about the importance of milk for growing children.
4. Beforehand, review the four steps for creating a new milk flavor and guidelines you've established for your party. Remind students that they only need a little of the mix-ins to get great flavor!
5. Let the party begin and have lots of fun.
6. Optional: Have students write out the directions for their milk creations and compile them for the rest of the class.
Even if you don't hold a Mix It with Milk party, distribute the handout and encourage your students to come up with some new creations at home.
