Arianna, Breakfast, and the Learning Edge

What does breakfast have to do with learning?
A lot, according to the research! National studies show that breakfast eaters are better able to concentrate and learn, have fewer behavioral problems and have higher academic and standardized test performance. Help your students reach their academic potential by encouraging them to eat breakfast and using Arianna's Nutrition Expedition™ to arm them with the information they need to choose a nutritious breakfast.

Here's how:

Begin with an Online Tour — Sit back, relax and take our NEW Online Tour that highlights everything you need to know to begin teaching Arianna's Nutrition Expedition. This time saver includes Getting Started information, a Look Inside the Lessons, a Review of Reproducible Materials, and more! It's perfect for bringing teaching assistants up to speed, too!

Review Breakfast Basics —Check out page 6 of Arianna's Nutrition Expedition Nutrition Backgrounder. You'll find colorful graphs comparing different breakfasts, more about the benefits of school breakfast and information about what makes a nutritious breakfast.

Encourage Breakfast Every Day — Not just on test day. Make sure students have a solid foundation for making nutritious choices. Introduce the Five Food Groups with Arianna Bones and the Case of the Missing Food Groups, Activity 1. Teach about the health benefits and nutrients associated with each Food Group with Arianna Bones and the "Great-Mysteries-of-Nutrition" Pavilion, Activity 2, and plan a nutritious breakfast in Arianna Travels the Orient Express, Activity 5.

"National School Breakfast Week, March 5-9"

Connect with the Cafeteria — Encourage kids to take advantage of school breakfast when they can't eat at home. National School Breakfast Week is March 5-9. Tie in this year's theme, a "World of School Breakfast," with Arianna's global adventures. Find suggestions for connecting classroom learning with the cafeteria on page 7 of Arianna's Nutrition Backgrounder. Also, invite your school nutrition professional to talk about breakfast, hold a School Breakfast Foods Tasting and decorate the breakfast menu and cafeteria with Arianna and Marcus characters found in Downloadable Materials.
