- Super Bowls — Expand your breakfast program by including it in your promotion. Offer milk and cereal bowls for breakfast in the cafeteria one morning each week. Set up a bar with sliced fruit toppings so students can pick and choose their favorites.
- Gather a group of students or work with several classrooms and have them create and announce your activities and/or Big Game of a Healthy Life on the PA System<./li>
- Use available opportunities to coordinate activities with your School Wellness Policy efforts.
- Decorate your cafeteria, in addition to the football field you've created on the wall. Go simple - just hang posters of local sports teams and or milk mustache posters of athletes. Go the extra mile and make it look like a sports stadium.
- Gather a group of students or work with several classrooms and have them create and announce your activities and Pep Rally on the PA System.
- Encourage staff to dress for the occasion and remember, homemade works just fine.
- Offer face painting! Face painting sets are inexpensive and footballs and team names are easy to apply. Tie the activity of having faces painted with your breakfast program to increase participation.
More Ideas
- Serve milk at school athletic banquets and sporting events. If you don't already offer milk in single-serve plastic containers, this is a great time to introduce them!
- Have school nutrition staff go into the cafeteria crowd to sell snacks (healthy ones, of course) just like in the stadium. Try healthier options such as pretzels and flavored milk in plastic bottles.
- Include the "Hometown Heroes." Work with the music director and invite your school's band to play during lunch periods. Ask the cheerleaders to perform some "Energy In, Energy Out" cheers. And of course, honor your very own sports teams, and invite them, along with everyone else in the school, to wear jerseys.
- Emphasize the good nutrition/physical activity tie-in to championship health
